Pip and Elle: The First Hello

Pip lived in a small mushroom house at the edge of the Glimmerwoods.

Every morning, he stepped outside to stretch, breathe the cool air, and listen to the forest waking up.

But on this morning, something felt different.

A warm, sweet smell drifted through the air.
It was soft, like honey warmed by sunlight.

Pip sniffed once.
He sniffed twice.
The smell made him feel curious and calm at the same time.

“I wonder where that’s coming from,” he said out loud, because he often talked to the forest.
The forest usually listened.

Pip followed the scent along a smooth, easy path.
The trees rustled gently, as if encouraging him forward.
Little beams of light landed on the ground, making glowing spots that showed the way.

As Pip walked, he heard something new—a soft humming.
Not a buzzing, not a whistle…
but a warm song, like someone singing to themselves while they worked.

Pip stopped and listened.
The humming made him feel safe.

Soon he reached a tall, friendly-looking tree.
Wrapped around its trunk was a wooden ladder, sturdy and inviting.
High above, nestled in the branches, was a tree house with round windows and leaves draped like curtains.

Pip felt his heart flutter with excitement.

Just then, a girl leaned over the balcony.
She had bright, kind eyes and hair that moved gently in the breeze.

“Hello down there!” she called. “I’m Elle. Are you visiting?”

Pip smiled shyly. “Hello. I’m Pip. I followed a warm smell and a humming sound… and they brought me here.”

Elle laughed a soft, musical laugh—the same sound Pip had heard in the forest.
“That was probably me! I was making warm leaf tea.”
She lifted a small cup.
Steam curled into the air. The sweet smell drifted down to Pip again.

“Would you like to come up?” Elle asked. “It’s very peaceful up here.”

Pip placed his hands on the ladder. It felt smooth and steady.
He climbed slowly, step by step, taking his time.
When he reached the top, Elle held out her hand to help him onto the balcony.

Pip stood still for a moment.
From the tree house, he could see everything—the wide green forest, the shining streams, the tiny animals moving below.
The world looked calm and beautifully simple from up high.

“It’s beautiful,” Pip said, almost whispering.

Elle nodded. “I come up here every morning. The forest looks different each day, but always kind.”

They sat together on a wooden bench. Elle poured Pip a small cup of the warm leaf tea.
The sweet smell wrapped around them like a hug.

“I’m glad you followed the scent,” Elle said.

“So am I,” Pip answered.
His cheeks felt warm—not from the tea, but from the feeling of something new and wonderful.

In that moment, Pip knew this wasn’t just a meeting.
It was the beginning of a friendship that felt like family—steady, gentle, and full of light.
